What Information Should I Include When I Publish a Report?

According to the requirements for minimum disclosure under the Code of Professional Ethics and Practices (AAPOR), each researcher must include (or be ready to immediately disclose) the following information when publishing a survey/research report for public use:

  • Name of the survey sponsor;
  • Name of the organisation that carried out the survey;
  • The exact wording of the published questions;
  • Definition of the survey population;
  • Description of the sampling frame used to represent this population;
  • An explanation of how respondents were recruited;
  • Total sample size;
  • Method or mode of data collection;
  • Dates and locations of data collection;
  • Estimation of sampling error, if applicable;
  • A description of the weighting of the data (or a statement that the data has not been weighted) and any estimation procedures used to produce the final results;
  • If the findings of the survey report relate to individual sub-samples rather than the whole sample, the size of the sub-samples should also be reported.
