Basic Analysis Display Options

In the 'ANALYSE' - 'Statistics' tab, 1KA offers six different displays for viewing the results of the basic statistical analyses (summary, descriptive statistics and frequencies).

  • f  Frequencies: contains absolute frequencies, relative frequencies, percentages of valid units and cumulative. The display is particularly useful when we are interested in the raw number of responses for predefined categories (e.g. Categories - Single answer) or the content of the responses (e.g. Text and Date). The display is consistent with the displays in the selected statistical analysis mode "Frequencies".

    Example:

  • f*  Collapsed frequencies: the display is only used for multiple-choice questions, i.e. Categories - Multiple answers and Table - Multiple answers. It contains frequencies, valid units, corresponding units and percentages of valid and corresponding units. By default, the display is only used in the selected statistical analysis mode 'Summary'.

    Example:

  • s  Descriptives: contains the number of valid units, total units, mean, standard deviation, minimum and maximum. The display is useful for ordinal, interval and ratio variables when we are not interested in the frequencies for individual categories but in a more general picture of the responses. The display corresponds to the display in the chosen statistical analysis mode "Descriptive statistics".

    Example:

  • ∑  Table: the display is only used to show data in two dimensions and is therefore the primary display for all types of tables, e.g. Table - Single answer, Table - Differential, Table - Multiple answers, etc. It contains absolute and relative frequencies for all combinations of categories and responses. The display is used by default only in the selected statistical analysis mode "Summary".

    Example:

  • ∑↓  Vertical table: the display is only available for the Double grid table type. It contains the same information as the ‘ Table’ display, except that the two tables are positioned vertically instead of horizontally. The display is used by default only in the selected statistical analysis mode "Summary".

    Example:

  • A  Text only: the display is only available as an alternative display within the "Frequencies" option for Text type questions and other non-numeric types (URL, email, photo, file upload, etc.). It differs from the "Frequencies" display only in that it lists text entries, but no frequencies. The display is not used by default, it only appears as an additional option in the selected statistical analysis mode "Frequencies".

    Example:

In the summary, different question types have different default displays that present the data in the most effective way. E.g. Categories - Single answer has the default display  ‘f  Frequencies’, Categories - Multiple answers has the default display ‘f*  Collapsed frequencies’, Tables have the default display ‘Table’ etc.

Each question type has other displays available in addition to the default display that make sense for that question type (e.g. the ‘s Descriptives' display is not available for nominal variables).

Clicking on the three blue dots icon  shows the default display for the question type and the options for the other displays. When clicked, the other displays open in a separate window.
