In the 1KA application in tab 'EDIT' - 'Settings' - 'Basic settings' you can adjust language on three levels.
1. Primary language of the website for survey's author
You can set the primary language of the 1KA application, but you can also choose between Slovene and English. The chosen language does not affect the survey language as the respondents will see it. Additionally, in the tab 'User settings' you can change the language of the 'My surveys' tab, where you can also choose between Slovene and English.
2. Primary language of the survey for respondents
Choose the language for respondents from the drop-down list. The application currently supports basically all European languages (38 languages). It means that all standard words (e.g. 'Next page') will be automatically translated into the selected language.
3. Settings of additional languages for respondents
With the 'Translations and advanced settings' you can choose from additional options of the language, where you can translate the basic questionnaire to different languages. To do so, you must choose a language you want your questionnaire to be translated into from the drop-down list and then click on the 'Add new language'. Simultaneously, both versions, the basic version and the version meant for translation will appear. That way it provides you with a simple translation of the questionnaire.
You can add several translations, while individual translations can be edited with a chosen language in the category 'Additional languages for respondents' by clicking on the language you want to edit.
You can also define whether the respondent can choose a language by himself or is it chosen by you. In case the respondent chooses the language by himself, you can send the same questionnaire to different target populations and the choice of language will be the first question of the survey. Also, if the respondent chooses the language, you can set the display format of the language question: you can choose between the radio button and dropdown menu.
Each version (translation) of the questionnaire has its own URL address that can be viewed at 'PUBLISH' – 'Settings'. This is important if you decide the language instead of the respondent because in that case, an URL for the English version of the questionnaire will lead to a survey in the English language. If the respondent can choose the language by himself, then the first question in all versions of the questionnaire will be the language choice, no matter the URL.
In tab 'DATA' - 'Browse' where you can see the collected data, there is also an extra variable, shown as 'Language' in case of multiple language versions of the questionnaire. For this variable display in the data table, you must set under 'Data display settings' as 'Para data'.
In the tab 'ANALYSE' - 'Statistics', language performs as its own variable, which provides you to compare the responses regarding the language.
