System variables in conditions
When inserting conditions into a questionnaire in addition to setting conditions based on questions, conditions can also be inserted based on system variables. By using conditions we can achieve that only certain respondents can answer certain questions. We can choose between: random groups, groups, respondent's device, language and status.
Random groups
In you have a long questionnaire you can relieve respondents by using conditions for random groups. We can for example determine to randomly divide all respondents into two groups. By using conditions we then determine that certain questions are displayed to one group and others to the other group.
- Condition based on random groups is created by inserting the usual condition by clicking on the blue IF icon that is located in the left side menu with all question types.
- That icon is then dragged before first question for which you want that it is only seen by a certain (random) group of respondents.
- In the next step we select 'Random groups' from the dropdown menu. Then we select to which of the groups should the question, inserted into the condition, be displayed.
- In the end, move the 'ENDIF' tag behind the last question that you want to include into the condition; to only be seen by one group of respondents.
Groups
If you want to analyse groups of respondents, but you don't want to include identification question, you can create groups before making survey active. Procedure for creating groups of respondents is described here.
When the groups are created, you can display certain questions only to certain groups. That is done by using conditions.
- Insert the condition by clicking on the blue IF icon that is located in the left side menu with all question types.
- Drag that icon before the first question that you want to display only to certain group of respondents.
- Choose 'Groups' from the menu and then at 'Choose value' select the group of respondents to which should the question, inserted into the condition, be displayed.
- In the end, move 'ENDIF' behind last question that you want to include into the condition; to only be seen by one group of respondents.
Respondent's device
If you want to allow access to the survey or part of the survey only to respondents accessing a survey using a particular device, you can do that by using conditions.
- Insert the condition by clicking on the blue IF icon that is located in the left side menu with all question types.
- Drag the blue icon before the first question that you want to display only to a certain group of respondents.
- From the dropdown menu choose 'Device' and then in the second menu choose type of device: computer, telephone, tablet or robot.
- In the end, move the 'ENDIF' tag behind the last question that you want to include into the condition; to only be seen by the respondents using certain type of device.
Language
If your questionnaire is in multiple languages certain questions can be displayed only to respondents filling out the survey in a certain language. You have to translate the questionnaire before inserting conditions. If the questionnaire is not translated this option will not be displayed to you.
- Insert the condition by clicking on the blue IF icon that is located in the left side menu with all question types.
- Drag the IF icon before the first question that you want to display only to a certain group of respondents.
- Choose 'Language' in the first dropdown menu and then choose the language.
- In the end, move the 'ENDIF' tag behind the last question that you want to include into the condition; to only be seen by the respondents that are filling out the questionnaire in a certain language.
